You probably know Zizou Corder as the amazing author of books like the Lionboy trilogy, Lee Raven: Boy Thief and Halo. But did you know that Zizou is actually two people? Mother-and-daughter team Louisa Young and Isabel Adomakoh Young talked to Puffin Book Club about their stories and what it's like to create books together.
Where did your pseudonym come from?
We wanted a pseudonym because Isabel's full name is Isabel Abena Nana Hemaah Stellamaris Nascimiento Minnehaha Ya Asantewa Adomakoh Young and that would never fit on the cover of a book, so we use our lizard's name instead - Zizou.
What is the best part of writing together? And what is your writing process?
The best part is doing things together and laughing at each other. And the writing process is a magic secret.
How would you describe Halo in five words?
Know Yourself. And, Things Change. Or, Scary Lovely Funny Disgusting Argggh. Or, Her Best Friend's A Centaur!
Why did you decide to write a book set in ancient Greece?
Because it is beautiful and fascinating, and has centaurs, plagues and the invention of democracy in it. Plus we could go to Greece which is a wonderful country, and just looking at things there would count as work.
