We caught up with Eighth Grade Bites author Heather Brewer to find out a bit about the woman
behind the books...!
Who is your favourite character in the book and why?
My favourite character is definitely Vlad. He and I are the most alike and both deal with life's problems through humour and sarcasm. We're also both very loyal to our friends. I like Vlad as a hero because he's not a perfect boy. He makes mistakes. But he learns from them.
What's in store for Vlad in the next book in the series?
As we move through The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, you'll see more of everything. More social issues, more problems with Eddie Poe, more vampire bad guys, and yes, more blood. Lots of it.
Do you believe in the supernatural?
I do. I've experienced things that I cannot explain through logic or science. So what else is left but the paranormal?
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
I would give just about anything to be able to move so fast that no one could see me. Imagine all the writing I could get done!
What is your favourite children's book?
Hands-down it would be Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. Everyone always seems so surprised when they hear that.
What is your favourite place?
My favourite place in the world is wherever my family is. But a few specific locations on my list are: the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, the Village in New York City, and a certain spot of grass under a certain tree in Jackson Square in New Orleans.
If you weren't an author what would you be?
I honestly have no idea! All I've ever wanted to be is an author. But it would be really cool to be a rock star. A shame I have no musical abilities whatsoever.
Do you have any writing tips for our readers?
Yes! If you want to write a book, don't let anyone tell you no. You can do anything you set your mind to. With a lot of hard work and determination, you can do anything. So do it!
How long does it normally take you to write a book?
It largely depends on the book. Eighth Grade Bites took me four months to write, but Ninth Grade Slays took six months. I write them all the same: one word at a time.
