How to search for books

There is a search box at the top of every page. You can use this to search by entering the author, title, keyword or the book code from our printed magazines into the search box.

If your search is unsuccessful, you will be given tips to help you search again. If you are still unable to find the book you are looking for, this means that unfortunately we do not currently have this book in stock. Please do check back another time as books will be readvertised if they do come back into stock.

Children's age ranges

We organise our books in the categories of 3+, 5+, 7+, 9+ and 11+. Our age guidance levels are based on publishers' recommendations, so we would always recommend that parents use their own judgment to decide whether a book is an appropriate choice for their child. We will of course be happy to adjust a title's age range if it becomes clear that the original recommendation is not correct. You are also entitled to return books by following our returns procedure.

Using the basket

To add an item to your shopping basket as you browse the site, just click Add next to the product you want to buy. When you view more information about a book, you can also choose to add more than one copy to your basket. You can view your basket at any time by choosing the basket link at the top of the page, or by clicking the basket icon that shows you the running total as you add items to your basket. As well as listing your purchases the basket will show you details of any discounts you will receive when you place your order. You can also change the quantity of items you would like to purchase by using the drop down menu next to the product and clicking update. Once you have placed your order you cannot add items to, or delete items from this particular order. Please see our cancellation policy for details of how to cancel your whole order.

Using the Bookshelf

If you see a book you are interested in but are not ready to buy it, choose the option Add to Bookshelf to store it to buy later.

Please note that adding an item to your Bookshelf does not reserve it, so a book may sell out or become unavailable before you buy it, in which case the item will be removed.

To add or remove items from your Bookshelf, select the item and scroll down to choose the action to perform, then click submit.

Using Quick Shop

To buy titles with Quick Shop, first find the product codes of the items you require, which are clearly printed next to each item in the Puffin Book Club magazine. Enter the product code, then click Add to transfer the item to your basket.

The Puffin Nest Egg

If a customer places an order with Puffin Book Club but doesn't have a local school that they want to support by donating the money earned by their orders, they can opt to donate the money to the Puffin Nest Egg.

The Puffin Nest Egg is a scheme designed to benefit charities that support reading, and the money donated will be passed on as free books to kids who really need them, either in the UK or abroad. The charity currently being supported by The Puffin Nest Egg is advertised on the website and at the end of each charity's time as a beneficiary, the amount of money donated will also be shown online.

To elect to donate the money earned by your order to the Puffin Nest Egg, simply select this option when you see it displayed on the checkout page.

How to track orders

You can check the progress of your online orders through My Account. This shows a list of recent orders and the status of each order, including whether they have been despatched and the date they left the warehouse. You can also check the delivery address on the order and find out which courier company is delivering the order. Once an order has been despatched you can enter the tracking number provided into the courier's tracking service and track your order directly with them. See Terms and conditions for more information. If your order is overdue and does not show as despatched, please contact Customer Services on 0845 606 4216 or by using our contact form and they will investigate for you.

School orders placed by post or phone can also be tracked in this way, but the order tracking status will relate to the entire group order. Please contact Customer Services with any queries related to individual orders.

Cancelling your order

You have the right to cancel your order anytime before and up to seven working days starting from the day after the goods are delivered. We are unable to amend an order once it has been submitted, however it may be possible for us to cancel your order on your behalf prior to despatch. Puffin Book Club School Credit

Puffin Book Club's 50% commission deal for schools is a brilliant way of restocking the shelves in your classroom or library. We have deals all year to make spending the money your parents raise a real pleasure, and our customer services team will be happy to help if you need advice on which books are suitable for certain age groups.

Each school's coordinator will be responsible for choosing how to spend their school's balance. A statement with each delivery of magazines will tell the coordinator exactly how much money is in the school's account, and this can then be spent straightaway or saved towards a special set of books.

To spend your balance online, choose the "Buy with your balance" option when you select to buy. Alternatively, you can add the books you want to buy to your basket and then redeem your balance against some or all of the books you have added when you reach the checkout.
